Sample Abstract

A reputed health care institution in New Delhi was facing huge problems with its equipment due to frequent breakdowns. This project focuses on improving the effectiveness of the maintenance processes. The project goal was to reduce the frequency of breakdown of medical equipments. The rationale for choosing this project was that any kind of equipment failure may result in harm to a patient or employee, a wrong diagnosis, stopping the care delivery process, or wasting the hospital’s resources (assets). The team followed a structured methodology to identify the real problem as the nature of breakdown, then the problem was statistically quantified and a root cause analysis was conducted for equipment breakdown. On ascertaining the main causes of breakdown to fall under the three categories of operator related, environment related and machine related factors, appropriate preventive and corrective measures were undertaken. The tangible results realized through this project are; significant increase in uptime of the equipment and reduction in frequency of equipment breakdown. This was couple with several intangible results such as increased financial benefits and employee satisfaction.”
