Service is work performed for someone else. Entire industries are established to provide services in such forms as central energy, transportation, communication and entertainment. Service also includes work performed for someone else within companies, that is, payroll preparation, recruitment of new employees, and plant maintenance. Such services are often called support services.
Software has more than one meaning. A major meaning is instruction programs for computers. Another major meaning is information, generally: reports, plans, instructions and advice.
