Quality improvement is a structured process for reducing deficiencies in goods, services, or processes. It can also be used to improve performance in areas that, while not deficient, show room for improvement.
To be effective, improvement requires clear definition and accurate measurement of the problem, and a team dedicated to improving it.
The process is a two-phased journey:
- A diagnostic journey from symptom to cause
- A remedial journey from cause to remedy
The remedy must include steps to combat cultural resistance to the new approach.
